I learned fiction writing by creating short stories and having other writers critique them. I also studied books on fiction writing. After my first two books were published by a small indie press, I decided to go into self-publishing. I did research, came across many contradictions and struggled to master the many chores necessary to publish a quality book package. As an author, I had to learn book marketing from the bottom up. And that's not easy, unless you know someone who can guide you through the marketing swamp.
In recent years, my focus has been on non-fiction. Specifically on fiction writing, self-publishing and book marketing. This focus has resulted in books, video classes and stuff like these templates.
